The Shakespeare Prison Project at Racine Correctional Institution

The Shakespeare Prison Project (SPP), directed by Communication Professor Jonathan Shailor, is a partnership between the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Racine Correctional Institution (Sturtevant, Wisconsin).  Each year, prisoners study, rehearse, and perform a Shakespeare play.  They also create original autobiographical performances inspired by their work with Shakespeare.  Through this 12-month process, participants develop self-awareness, communication skills, empathy, and conflict resolution skills.
